Let’s do some creative brainstorming.
It’s the first time I have ever heard this song. What comes to mind when listening? What story would I tell with this in the background?
I see three friends crammed into the cab of an old pickup truck. One with a bench seat made of that vinyl that burns the skin if its left in the sun on a hot day.
Maybe it’s the 1990s. Let’s go mid-90s. No one is worrying about Y2K just yet, but far enough in that we’ve shed hair bands.
The driver is 20, working somewhere shitty. Maybe a factory. Maybe worse. He skinny with a goatee and short, spiky hair. He’s too old for frosted tips, or maybe that fad hasn’t hit quite yet.
His two buddies are younger. Let’s say seventeen. They’ve grown up next door to each other, or something like that. One’s a bit pudgy, but strong like a bull. Sort of has the temperament of a bull. Usually fine, but sometimes he puts his head down and rams for no reason.
The other is a brain. Loves math. Or maybe science. He’s wearing a Rush T-Shirt, a band that the other two like OK, but that he loves.
They are going somewhere. It’s night time in the fall in the Midwest. The moon is full, glowing like a lemon over fields half harvested.
They are going somewhere, but they don’t know where. When they get there, they’ll figure out they can’t ever go back. It’s likely not all three will make it.
Where would I go with this story? Where would you go?
