We were nearing our exit from 155 to US 55 that would take us
to Springfield when “Ain’t Even Done with the Night,” by John Mellencamp came on.
“Ah, this is one of my lowkey favorite Mellencamp songs,” my
co-worker Ty said.
I had hit a song accidently the day before on the MP3 player
so instead of it being on shuffle, it was playing through my songs alphabetically.
We decided to keep it that way.
I used to do this more when I used an actual MP3 player
rather than a mini-SD card in phone. I always liked seeing how long it would
take me to get through one letter of the alphabet or another.
This song started an unexpected run of songs that begin with
the word “Ain’t.” As I write that, I think of all the times growing up when
someone would say “Ain’t, ain’t a word.”
In all, I had ten songs on my phone that began with “Ain’t.”
We heard them all. The others were:
