We stopped at the local Author’s Fair today at the Sterling Public Library, spending time talking to the writer’s and promoting Write On.
“How do you think you would do at a thing like that?” Jodi asked as we drove away from the Library over to Menards.
“Well, I do sales with records, and I do okay with that.”
“That’s different though. This you would have to talk to people more.”
She’s not wrong, and talking to people isn’t always my favorite thing.
“Well, I do have to do it at the booth for work a couple times a year, so I think I would be okay.”
Jodi let it drop after that, and it’s not a huge concern. I had submitted a 50,000-word novella a few years ago to various publishers and agents. It’s really a series of linked stories, but I had to admit to myself that the first story was my favorite of the bunch, and after that, I grew less confident with each one after that. I worry there are a couple of forced parts in there.
I have thought about putting together a short story collection. I certainly have a few dozen of them from various contests. My worry there is that they are a smattering of genres and styles. How would they fit together in one book?
We do some shopping and then eat at a new place at the edge of town.
On the way home, this song plays.
“I think this song plays on Sirius every time we ride together,” I said.
Jodi agreed.
