I’ve reached the
climax of the story. The main character confronts the antagonist. The stakes
are high.
How do I write out
of it?
Does the hero save
the day? How though? He’s an unprepared human against a vampire.
I always feel a bit
lost in a jungle when it comes to discovering satisfactory endings. I can
tinker with sentences and change the setup here and there, but finding the
right ending is a weakness.
I’m not a sucker for
happy endings, but that doesn’t mean they should never happen. Is there a
twist? Is there a lesson? Have I been hinting to the end the entire time?
My favorite Stephen
King series “The Dark Tower” has a section in it where King addresses the
reader about endings. Basically, he writes one because that is the custom of
the land. The reality, an ending is just another way of saying goodbye and
rarely is that a good thing.
So, I have two days
to resolve this one. I will likely read through it a few dozen times, trying to
hear the secret buried in my words.
