I received the personal message early in the afternoon, asking if one of the lots I had posted on Facebook Marketplace was available. 

I said yes. Nothing back for a few minutes. 

Then: “Where and when can we meet.” 

I am looking at the details of the prospective buyer and there isn’t much on his or her profile. The name appears to be a moniker or handle rather than an actual name. I am leery about giving out my address. There are a number of bots that will start conversations like this. 

I reply: “I get home at 5:30. Where are you coming from?”

The conversation seems to end there. Ah, see if you veer from the script, the bot gives up. 

But I am wrong. When I am driving home, I get a new message. They are in Davenport. That’s about an hour away, and I decide maybe we can arrange a meeting at the Morrison Dairy Queen. Easier for him or her to find. 

The rest goes as planned. Jodi and I rushed a bit through supper, cleaning up, and getting our lunches packed for tomorrow, but still made it in plenty of time. 

The buyer arrived on time, looked over the records, and then forked over the cash. 

Jodi and I went inside and bought a couple Blizzards to celebrate. We saw that the buyer had went through the drive thru. 

A good night with records and ice cream for all.
